The 2012 Toyota Highlander is a relatively easy car to maintain and would be a good choice for the novice car owner. The brake fluid reservoir also has very open access, making it easy to monitor and maintain its fluid levels.
However, the 2012 Toyota Highlander does have its downsides. The oil filter is located behind its individual panel underneath the vehicle, which is an added step that you won’t find on similar models. You will need to remove the wheel well lining to access the fog light, which can be a rather complicated procedure. The spare tire must be lowered from underneath the vehicle, which may create problems if it ever becomes rusted to the undercarriage.
