The 2012 Ram 1500 SLT is a difficult truck to maintain. The headlights have incredibly convoluted access, requiring multiple fasteners and panels to be removed and not allowing for reliable bulb changes. Servicing the non-LED center brake light will also be tedious, requiring multiple tools in order to take the housing out. The spare tire must be lowered from underneath the vehicle, which could create problems should it ever become rusted to the undercarriage.
However, the 2012 Ram 1500 SLT does have its upsides. The fog lights have very reliable access, as they can be changed by simply reaching behind the front bumper. The transmission fluid dipstick is quick to find and easy to remove, with level markers that are simple to make out. Changing the engine air filter shouldn’t be a problem, as no tools are needed to disconnect its housing nor remove the filter itself.
