The 2006 Scion XB is a moderately easy car to maintain, and a good choice for the average car owner. The engine air filter is easy to replace on this hatchback. You only have to disengage a few fasteners for access, and these fasteners are easy to disengage. Checking the transmission fluid level is easy to do, as the dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay. Not every model includes this dipstick. Changing the headlight is extremely easy to do, as you only have to reach behind the housing for access to the bulb. This will allow for reliable access to the bulb over the course of your ownership.
Some things are more problematic to repair on the 2006 Scion XB. You will need to use a tool in order to change the rear wiper blade on this hatchback. Other vehicles do not require the use of tools to change your wiper blade. Checking the engine coolant fluid level is difficult to do, as the fluid reservoir is not located in an overly visible spot in the engine bay. This can make a level check a problem. To change the cabin air filter, you will have to completely remove the glove box for access. This would have been much easier if there were a panel in the rear of the glove box for access.
