The 2004 Ford Expedition XLT is a relatively easy SUV to maintain and a good choice for the average vehicle owner. Changing the engine air filter is easy to do, as you only have to disengage one fastener for access to the filter. This fastener is easy to disengage. Checking the transmission fluid level is easy to do, as the fluid dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay. Not every model includes this dipstick. Both the front and rear wiper blades are easy to change on this vehicle. Other models will require the use of tools, so it’s a nice touch to be able to reliably change these blades with just your hands.
Some things are more problematic to repair on the 2004 Ford Expedition XLT. You will have to completely remove the headlight housing in order to reliably access the headlight bulb. This will require you to use many tools in order to complete many steps for access. To change any of the center brake light bulbs, you will have to completely remove the housing. This will require a few tools you may not have readily available for a repair. Similar to the other bulb housings, you will have to completely remove the tail light housing for access to the tail light. You will need to remove torx bolts for this repair.
