The 1999 Ford F-150 XLT is a moderately easy vehicle to maintain, and a good choice for the average vehicle owner. Changing the fog light with reliability is no problem, as you only have to reach behind the housing for access to the assembly. The brake fluid reservoir is easily visible in the engine bay. This will allow you to check and replenish the fluid level on a regular basis. Changing the engine air filter is easy to do, as you only have to disengage one fastener for access, and this fastener is easy to disengage.
Some things are problematic on the 1999 Ford F-150 XLT. You will have to lower the tire from under the vehicle for access to it. The lowering mechanism can grow rusted to the vehicle and be difficult to turn. While it is nice that this vehicle includes a transmission dipstick, it is tough to access and check, as it is located deep in the engine bay. Changing the head- or tail lights will require you to remove the entire housing first. Other models make this access much easier.
