The 1998 Mazda 626 LX is a moderately easy car to maintain when compared to other similar models. Accessing the engine air filter is easy to do on this car, as you only have to disengage a few fasteners for access to the filter. These fasteners are no problem to disengage. Both the engine and interior fuse boxes are easy to access on this vehicle. You only have to remove one cover for reliable access to either set of fuses, allowing you to troubleshoot electrical problems easily. Checking the oil level is easy to do, as the oil dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay.
Some things are tougher on the 1998 Mazda 626 LX. To access the tail lights, you will have to completely remove the housing first. This will require a few tools you may not have readily available for a repair. For access to the headlight on one side, you will have to move a reservoir out of the way first. Other models make this access much easier. The center brake light can be difficult to access. The tabs that you need to pinch in order to remove the housing are located in a tight space, making a bulb change difficult.
